New high school at Bowden site

Posted on September 9, 2010

Member for Adelaide, Rachel Sanderson, has called on the Rann Government to act on the Liberal plan to include a second campus of Adelaide High School at the proposed Transit Orientated development in Bowden.

Adelaide High School is facing chronic overcrowding issues with the school currently operating at more than 250 students over capacity.

More than 500 prospective students have been turned away this year alone, despite many living within the school zone.
Member for Adelaide, Rachel Sanderson has today renewed calls for the State Government to use the Bowden site for a second campus for Adelaide High School.

“Adelaide High School’s rezoning and enrolment issues have been consistently ignored by the Rann Labor Government.

“The Liberal Party’s plan will expand a successful public school to alleviate overcrowding issues and increase access to students from surrounding areas including prospect, Walkerville, Ovingham, Fitzroy, Thorngate and Medindie.

“After eight years the Rann Government has delivered an education crisis to South Australia by ignoring the reasonable expectations of parents that their children will have access to quality public education within reasonable distance from their homes,” Ms Sanderson said.
