Arrogant Labor Threaten to Break Questions Guarantee

Posted on September 30, 2010

Under pressure from both the angry public reaction to the Budget, and Opposition questioning about the Budget an arrogant Labor Government threatened to break a long standing guarantee of 10 Opposition questions during Parliamentary question time.

It has been a bad week for the Government with:

• Treasurer Foley’s $333 million Budget error
• Public Service rallies against cuts to long service leave, leave loading and threatened forced redundancies
• Community rally to halt the closure of The Parks Community Centre
• The Premier criticised by Social Inclusion Commissioner over the proposed closure of the Parks Community Centre
• No Labor MP speaking in support of the Budget in the main debate on the Budget

Yesterday when asked a question regarding the South Australian Cricket Association getting a $30 million loan for the Adelaide Oval upgrade, Treasurer Foley refused to answer the question and Minister Conlon tried to answer it.

In response Minister Conlon said:
“I am not going to guarantee them 10 questions anymore...”

If the Government proceeds with this threat it will undermine the public confidence in the Parliament.
This is a sign of an arrogant government that is under pressure because it is tired and out of touch.
