South Australia deserves better

Facts clearer after election

Posted on May 31, 2010

Once again the Rann Government has been caught out misleading the public with conflicting stories arising to as how many customers it has for its Glenelg to Adelaide Parkland pipeline (GAP).

Shadow Water Security Minister Mitch Williams said the Rann Government had again been exposed, telling South Australians one thing before the election and another thing afterwards.

“Water Security Minister Paul Caica announced with much fanfare yesterday that West Torrens Council was ‘one of the first customers to sign up to take water from the GAP pipeline project to maintain their parks and gardens’ ,” Mr Williams said.

“But in January, before the election, the Rann Government was telling South Australians it had almost 30 customers, including the City of West Torrens, that would be signing up to the project ‘next month’ .

“So, why is the City of West Torrens now, three months later than intended, being heralded as ‘one of the first customers to sign up’ to the project?

“Is it because the Rann Government didn’t have 30 customers signed up but had look like it was doing something about the issue of water before an election campaign?

“Once again the Rann Government’s story has started to unravel post election.

“The facts are the Rann Government doesn’t have as many customers for the water from the GAP pipeline projects as it said it did.

“South Australians have been misled – again!”
