The number of South Australian schools unhappy with the delivery of the ‘Building the Education Revolution’ program is being blocked by the Rann Labor Government.

 

In October 2009 Shadow Education Minister David Pisoni made a request under the Freedom of information Act asking for:

 

“Access to any documents relating to complaints received by the SA DECS concerning applications made to it under the Building the Education Revolution program since its inception in February 2009.'

 

Shadow Education Minister David Pisoni said that DEC’s reason for refusing to release complaints received is that ’it would be an unreasonable diversion of the Department’s resources’.

 

“The blocking of this legitimate FOI request smacks of a State Labor cover-up to shield their Federal Labor mates from a program disaster in the lead-up to a 2010 Federal election,” Mr Pisoni said.

 

“It would seem that there are so many complaints that the department hasn’t the resources to collate them all.

 

“In light of the media coverage of schools around the country who have been let down by the BER it’s astonishing that in SA DEC’s won’t allow access to the complaints of SA schools.

 

“Minister for Education, Jay Weatherill must immediately release the list of schools in SA who have had complaints about the delivery of the BER”.
