Foley's hidden cuts

Posted on January 29, 2010

Treasurer Kevin Foley must come clean with the tax payers of South Australia and outline where he plans to make $750 million in cuts.

Mr Foley is so arrogant that he believes he can put off announcing the cuts to services and public sector jobs until after the election, claiming that he is waiting for further advice from  independent  experts from the Eastern States.

Mr Foley has had 8 years managing the state’s coffers and he should know what decisions need to be made and have the courage to make them so the South Australian tax payers are fully aware of his plans before they go to the ballot box.

The Treasurer’s own Sustainable Budget Commission was set up by Mr Foley to identify the areas where savings could be made, now that Commission’s own budget has blown out by more than $2.5 million. How can a Commission that can’t even manage its own budget be expected to manage a State Budget?

This is damming evidence that the Treasurer has lost control of his own budget process and is hiding the real impact from the people. The cuts were first announced in June 2009, he has now had 8 months to reveal the details.

The Rann Government is tired and out of ideas after 8 years in office and is now outsourcing the budget decision making process.
