South Australia deserves better

An Open Letter To Minister Weatherill

Posted on August 3, 2011

As a person with almost a decade of Ministerial involvement in the South Australian Parliament, you should be aware of the importance of putting the state before self-interest.

I write this letter of concern in the moment of remarkable turmoil for South Australia.

Our state deserves stability and confidence, but the current climate of instability and distrust is poisonous for South Australia’s future.

Apparently Labor’s powerbrokers have anointed you to succeed the current Premier, Mike Rann, but it now appears you don’t have the courage to finish off your wounded leader.

This appears to be your “deer in the headlights” moment – Mr Rann has called your bluff and you’re now caught between looking weak and insipid and having blood on your hands.

We’re all aware how important this is for you, as you have always said you would never challenge for the Premier’s job. You’d rather it be delivered to you by Labor’s faceless unionists.

South Australians deserve more from their leaders.

Now is your moment to put South Australia first and do what is right – finish off what you and Labor’s unions started. It is the only way to restore confidence and stability in our state.

If Mr Rann is allowed to continue on for a couple of months to achieve his own personal milestones, then your Labor Government is putting the self-interest of an individual before the interests of our state.

After all, why should Mr Rann be entitled to surpass John Bannon’s record as Labor’s longest serving Premier for no other reason than his personal legacy?

It is time to put South Australia first and do what’s right to restore confidence and stability.

Kind Regards,

ISOBEL REDMOND
Leader of the Opposition
Parliament of South Australia

I can't see the justification of increasing the price of electricity. We have like so many other people have installed sola panels 1: to help reduce our bill and 2: to help reduce the pollution by power generating plants. It seems that I have wasted my money as the Labour Government, State and Federal have made up their minds to bleed more money out of the people that are already struggling.

Question:- Does the Liberal Party support these increases or are you just sitting back and letting it happen? What will you do when you get into power, keep the increased costs and accept what Rann and his crew have imposed upon us or come up with a more economic solution.

We are pensioners who have to watch our spending very closely. We thought that by putting sola panels on the roof and putting rainwater tanks in it would make things a little easier, I guess it's not.

Dear Isobel
We are staunch liberal supporters who voted for you at the last election and were very disappointed that you did not get over the line.
As much as we detest the behaviour of the current labour government, we feel that this letter denegrates the position of public office that Mr Weatherill is about to take on.
We would love to see you as opposition leader, and hopefully as our next premier, engage with the public in a positive way. Denegrating public figures is a mindless activity. We are so over this current government, their financial mismanagement and adhoc decision making, all we really want to hear is a positive vision for South Australia.

AW - I agree with you. I suggest that Both parties, state and CW, especially Liberal (probably because they are currently the party not in power) are really negative and too focused on degrading the other instead of moving forard on the right foot and having a genuine heart of ethics.
